Fifty blood-stained brides seek refuge after murdering their husbands on their wedding night, but no one's eager to take them in. As Kay, Leta, Arianna, Courtney, and Philomena beg for their lives, their stories form a complex tapestry of contemporary sisterhood… and provide insight into the deaths of the men who stood in their way.
Theatre Prometheus is partnering with fellow local theater company Nu Sass Productions to produce Meghan Brown’s The Pliant Girls. This event marks Theatre Prometheus’s first ever coproduction. Winner of the 2014 Ovation Award for Playwriting of an Original Play, The Pliant Girls is an adaptation(ish) of Aeschylus’s The Suppliants. We are honored to have this opportunity to work with a company that shares our values and echoes our own mission to make space for marginalized groups in theatre. We are especially excited to be able to share this timely play together as both our companies celebrate landmark anniversaries (Theatre Prometheus’s 10th season and Nu Sass’s 15th season).
Combining humor, heart, and a healthy dose of rage, The Pliant Girls is a sharply insightful exploration of love, sisterhood, and reclaiming the power to make your own choices.

Dua: The monster’s story
by robin berl
Stone rabbits. Stone altars. Stone men.
Lost, Medusa—no, Dua—seeks safety in a cave and makes it a home for herself. One where she can defend her sister, give birth, and maybe serve Athena in defending the world against men who would dare to look at women the wrong way.
Surely the gods wouldn’t have a different plan for a woman with the power to turn men to stone…
Kicking off the season is the world premiere of Dua: The Monster’s Story by DMV-based playwright Robin Berl. Selected as the winner of Prometheus' 2022 “Pitch Your Passion” program, Robin directs this moving feminist retelling of the Medusa myth after a year of development with Theatre Prometheus, including a reading at the Kennedy Center's 2023 Local Theatre Festival.
"These performances are so affectingly delivered that you will almost certainly be uncomfortable. In thoughtful theater, that is generally a good thing, and in Dua, it makes this production a masterwork." —DC Theater Arts
We are theatre prometheus
We tell the stories that too often go untold and we reach audiences too often overlooked by larger companies. From an unflinching one-woman take on Joan of Arc and our all-woman production of Macbeth, to our critically-acclaimed Good Kids and our queered [gay] Cymbeline, we are dedicated to producing work that highlights marginalized narratives.
"Full of creativity and energy,
Theatre Prometheus is a group
you do not want to miss!"
