ANNOUNCING:
THEATRE PROMETHEUS’ NEW MISSION STATEMENT
For us, much of the energy we held going into this new year has become clouded with concern. The slew of executive orders and initiatives signed since January 20th have been disheartening to all of us, if not devastating and harmful.
One thing that has brought us comfort, though, is our ability as an arts organization to support our community by producing theatre infused with and encouraging radical empathy. We’re grateful that we continue to provide a place where people can gather as audiences and artists, to express ourselves and build greater understanding.
To that end, we’ve spent the last few months hard at work with our administrative staff on a long-standing goal of ours: creating a new mission statement that encompasses these ideas. We’re thrilled to announce that we have ratified a brand-new statement that we feel makes clear, especially at this crucial time, who we are and what we stand for:
Centered around compassion, courage, and care, Theatre Prometheus invites artists and audiences to engage in queer and feminist art, both new and classic. We enkindle exploration and revolutionary empathy through practice, performance, and the nurturing of our person-first artistic community.

If a boy falls in love with another boy in the forest, but the boy is actually a girl dressed as a boy so she doesn't get sacrificed to Neptune, but the other boy is ALSO a girl dressed as a boy so SHE doesn't get sacrificed to Neptune, and unbeknownst to them they're both the subject of some Cupid-Venus-Diana god trickery, and in the end both of them are fine with one of them ACTUALLY becoming a boy if it means they can be together forever... is it really gay? Probably, but find out for sure in GALATEA!

We are theatre prometheus
We tell the stories that too often go untold and we reach audiences too often overlooked by larger companies. From an unflinching one-woman take on Joan of Arc and our all-woman production of Macbeth, to our critically-acclaimed Good Kids and our queered [gay] Cymbeline, we are dedicated to producing work that highlights marginalized narratives.

Theatre Prometheus is a group
