Dramaturg - Galatea by john lyly

This is a paid position. The stipend for this position is $500.

Theatre Prometheus seeks a dramaturg for their Spring 2025 production of Galatea by John Lyly.

If a boy falls in love with another boy in the forest, but the boy is actually a girl dressed as a boy so she doesn't get sacrificed to Neptune, but the other boy is ALSO a girl dressed as a boy so SHE doesn't get sacrificed to Neptune, and unbeknownst to them they're both the subject of some Cupid-Venus-Diana god trickery, and in the end both of them are fine with one of them ACTUALLY becoming a boy if it means they can be together forever... is it really gay? Probably, but find out for sure in GALATEA!

What you’ll do:

  • The Dramaturg will help the creative team answer questions that they have about the script and its context, create a dramaturgy packet, and work to ensure that discoveries made during rehearsals (to the extent that budget and time allow) and notes throughout the process are included in dramaturgy materials.

  • The dramaturg will also assist the playwright and director to develop the script. This includes communicating dramaturgical discoveries with directors, designers, and actors throughout the rehearsal process and for the run of the show.

Important Dates

  • First Rehearsals: February 18th

  • Rehearsals: TBD by team availability

  • Load in: April 4 through April 6

  • Tech/Dress Rehearsals: April 7 through April 17th

  • Opening: April 18th

  • Performances: Running four weeks - Thursdays, Fridays, Saturday evenings, one Saturday matinee and one Sunday matinee

The commitment for this position is part-time, with rehearsals and meetings generally taking place in the evenings and on weekends. A larger commitment will be needed closer to the performance and especially during tech.
